"Among the Dead" was Kevin Wignall's second book, published in the UK in 2002. The odd one out among his adult titles, it opens with five students who have just hit and killed another student while driving home from a party. Because the driver has been drinking, they make the fateful decision not to report the accident. Years later, they've all gone their separate ways. Alex Stratton is a successful psychiatrist, specializing in the chilling disorder from which he himself suffers - sleep paralysis. When two of his former friends die in mysterious circumstances his psychological state becomes ever more fragile. Is he being haunted by Emily Barratt, the girl they killed all those years before, or is one of their own number eliminating the witnesses to the crime they were all part of?
It's no longer in print, but it's available as an e-book and continues to sell well in that format. It's developed something of a cult following and attracted some high-profile fans. A Norwegian band even wrote a song about it, "Emily Barrett's Dead"!
